Score and Level Balance Update
Sting Operation » Devlog
- Scoring
- The game has a new scoring system. When you finish a stage, it will show you how much time, pellets and deaths that you saved in each individual level instead of just the total for the stage.
- Your scoring progress is saved.
- New high scores will overwrite previous records.
- The score system will compare your results to your previous score. Red numbers mean you did poorly, and green numbers mean you did well.
- You can now check your high scores in the stage select screen, just the total score though.
- Polish
- Each level now has a name that will display in the first few seconds of start up.
- The tutorial messages have a different look.
- The kids in the class room scene scream when they run out of the room.
- The amount of game over messages has been doubled from 30 to 60.
- One line of dialogue was changed during the intro scene. The commissioner now says "potentially thousands of live will be at stake" instead of "The very fabric of society may fall apart."
- When the nun asks "Jimmy, what are you doing back there," the line ends with a "?" instead of a "." now.
- The police car in the first level stops the tire screeching sound effect when it hits the wall.
- The warning messages for pellet and timer shortages were deleted.
- The borders of the GUI screen now turn red when you are about to lose.
- The golden bad guy now no longer spawns in the level "Spintable." His stars didn't line up with his spawn point so it was just easier to remove him entirely.
- A message in the room "Spintable" informs the player that there are communication issues with using arrow keys and D-Pad. (I was too lazy to make it work!)
- The final picture in entire game received a few touch ups. Mainly, the black police officers head was made smaller because it looked to big originally. Penny's eyes are a shade of red. Misc. pixels were moved around on the characters to make them more "anatomically" correct.
- Each level now has a name that will display in the first few seconds of start up.
- New Controls
- You can select a police officer by using the bumpers on a controller.
- You can select all officers in the room by pressing Q on keyboard or the Left Trigger.
- Pressing start now pauses the game.
- Pressing select in the pause screen now returns you to the level select.
- Pressing both triggers now return you the title screen from the pause or stage select.
- You can move the officers manually with the D-Pad or arrow keys. (Moving the camera with arrow keys does not work anymore, use WASD instead)
- You can move the camera with the right thumbstick.
- You can now return to the title screen after beating the game.
- Balancing
- The power up, which reveals invisible bad guys, had its spawning rate changed from 60 seconds to 40 seconds.
- The fire spreads more aggressively in the Abandoned Farm level. A new fire one is created every four seconds instead of six seconds.
- Level Changes
- The level layout for "Spintable" in the stage Death Machine has been completely changed. The design helps navigate all your officers toward the center of the arena when they are idle.
- The level layout for "Go With the Flow" for Snakes of Peril has been completely changed to make the snakes behavior more "readable."
- The level "Came Out of Nowhere" for Snakes of Peril had a level design issue fixed where the snake would veer off the blue tiling path near where the bottom riot gear set spawns. Duplicate walls that appear under the walls were deleted too so that there are green outlines everywhere.
- The level "Frustration" in the stage Satanic Temple now has dead ends at the top and bottom of the stage to help trap the invisible bad guys a little bit more easily.
- The level "Utter Chaos" in the stage Satanic Temple had its pathing changed so that the officers will stay in the middle half of the stage when idle. Two riot gears were added at the start too.
- Bug fixes
- In the classroom scene the seat where Jimmy sits does not spawn a child anymore.
- Mr. Shiny now shows the "+15sec" icon when you hit him during the boss fight.
- Double tapping a number on a key board now selects the correct police officer ONLY if you press the same number twice.
- Fixed a bug where the golden bad guy would spawn during the cutscene in the first level of the game. He now doesn't spawn.
- WASD controls work correctly in the level "Spintable."
- You can now move the camera with WASD and Right stick in "Marathon" but only up and down.
