New Prototype Update


It's crazy that it has been over a month ago since I did an update for this game. It almost feels as if it's still the same as before, but a lot of the content that already exists has been tripled.

  • The style of the mazes has changed and uses Godot's gridmap feature. This will allow me to add highly detailed environments in the future.
  • A broader range of maze layouts have been added, each having multiple rooms. This is more than the fixed four rooms from the first prototype of the game. Each level has more rooms than the last.
  • A cat was added to the game. It walks around the maze and meows. It's animation is slightly bugged though.
  • A system was developed that places portraits on walls. This system will be used as a building block to place more things such as decorations, vents, piping, etc.
  • The doctors AI has been changed. He has three states.  A field of vision allows him to see the player and chase after him.
  • Functionally animated elevators were added to the game. Buttons are interactable.
  • Swinging doors were added to replace the white blocks from the old version. . They have sound effects and can be opened and closed.
  • The player has a new death animation. This replaces the cheap jump scare from the first version.
  • Lights spawn in the map now.
  • Intro screen to how to play the game was added.
  • Music was added to the first level.

There are still many things that need to be fixed. Sometimes, the npc's pathfinding gets stuck on a wall. Thankfully, nothing gamebreaking has happened.

My next goal is to give this game a better art style. I may have to research on how to use shaders going on in the future. I will take a break from game dev and try to learn a couple more things about Godot.
